A Real Challenge
With one of the richest legacies in the country, Philadelphia is a
city built on the principles of liberty and equality that serve as the
foundation for our nation, as well as a once thriving hub of commerce
and industry. Although endowed with such an incredible past, today the
city struggles with an uncertain future filled with significant
challenges. These challenges include:
- A declining population
- A disappearing middle class
- A deteriorating physical infrastructure
- Widespread poverty, homelessness, and crime
and many other obstacles. Adding to these internal challenges is a
national economic crisis that has further impeded Philadelphia's
ability to fund basic services and attract investment.
A Real Solution: Land Value Taxation
In order to meet these challenges, it is time to turn to serious
reforms that can stabilize the city today and reverse the decades of
decline tomorrow. A land value tax (LVT) will allow the city to
maintain the present level of services under the budget while providing
significant tax relief to nearly 75% of property owners across the
city. With these savings, homeowners can use the money to
